March 2020 Update
19/03/20
This is just a quick note from us. We hope you and your family are safe amidst this COVID19 situation that seems to be changing on a daily basis.
Thoughts to everyone.
We’re adding this page to our website to share some recent updates supplied to us by the Discovery Coast Tourism & Commerce (DCTC). Below is some of the information they published today:
—————————————
The recent decision by Gladstone Regional Council to cancel all community events until 30 June 2020 obviously means that the 1770 Festival in 2020 will not go ahead in May as planned.
Community safety is of course paramount, and the historical gathering we have been working towards since October 2016 would have certainly surpassed 500 people. The local project team who have worked on all the aspects of the 1770 Festival for many, many volunteer hours deserve a sincere THANK YOU.
We know our readers and local community treasure this annual event for a great many reasons, however it is obviously the only course of action we can take at this time. For now, please make serious note of the DATE CLAIMER for 21 – 23 May 2021 and watch this space.
For now the Discovery Coast Rotary Markets will not be held at the SES Grounds on the scheduled dates.
Cruise ships are not docking in the near future, which includes the cancellation of the planned docking of the Pacific Explorer on 19 March 2020 in Gladstone. And P&O have paused operations their for 30 days.
Please note:
- It is safe to be in Agnes Water and 1770 if you apply the Government recommended health advice.
- Schools in Agnes Water and the surrounding areas are open.
- General services are open (post office, chemist, fuel station, grocery stores)
- Access in and out of Agnes Water and 1770 via the main access road (Round Hill Road) is open.
- Access via sea, Greyhound bus and trains into Miriam Vale also remain open and usual. Public transport restrictions may apply in the future.
